Bush says he is committed to deal for Palestinian state by end of year

US President George W. Bush tried Saturday to reassure Palestinians wary of his commitment to their side in the Mideast peace dispute. He said he is "absolutely committed" to getting an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal by the end of the year.
The president said one main reason for the dedication he promised Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday is that "it breaks my heart" to see the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Bush spoke after he and Abbas met at this beach resort on the Red Sea.
The two leaders met for nearly an hour before speaking briefly to reporters, and then strolled back inside - holding hands as they walked - for a private dinner. The meetings were a follow-up to Bush's two-day stay earlier this week in Israel.
