Iraq, Britain to discuss future of UK troops in Iraq

Talks will start soon on the future of British forces in Iraq after the December 31 expiration of the UN mandate for foreign forces, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Sunday. Maliki stated that he will appoint a team to start discussions with British officials for the future of 4,100 British troops in southern Iraq. Maliki's office issued the remarks Sunday after he met with visiting British Defense Secretary John Hutton. Iraq's government is involved in similar negotiations over a longterm security agreement with the United States.
