The Vienna-based organization that administers the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty says Lebanon endorsed the pact Friday, bringing the total number of ratifications to 148.
The organization's chief, Tibor Toth, said in a statement Tuesday that he welcomes the ratification by Lebanon, which has no nuclear weapons.
The treaty will take effect only when the 44 states that participated in a 1996 disarmament conference - and had nuclear power or research reactors at the time - sign and ratify it.
To date, nine of the nations have not done so: China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, North Korea, Pakistan and the United States.
