In preliminary but official results announced Thursday evening by the official PA election commission, Hamas overtook Fatah in the parliamentary elections by 76 seats to 43. Various smaller parties took the remaining 13 seats. In the race for the 67 national seats, Hamas won by 30 seats to Fatah's 27. Four parties shared the remaining 10 seats. In regional elections, Hamas dealt Fatah a resounding defeat, taking all of Hebron's nine seats and four out of east Jerusalem's six.
