A 15-year-old boy was stabbed and moderately wounded by a classmate at an Ashdod high school on Sunday.
Magen David Adom paramedics arrived at the scene and treated the victim before transferring him to Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot.
After searching the area for nearly an hour, police apprehended a 15-year-old classmate of the victim who had fled the scene and is suspected of the stabbing. Initial investigation revealed that the two students were in an altercation in class, when one drew a sharp object and stabbed the other twice in the chest.
“To our deep regret, the incidence of violence among youth has become a national calamity and we have frequently witnessed acts of violence throughout the country involving youth,” the Ashdod municipality said in a statement following the incident.
“The Ashdod Municipality and the Education Authority are acting with every means to eradicate all forms of violence.”
Following the stabbing students were urged to stay in school and classes resumed as usual.
The stabbing in Ashdod followed a similar incident in Rishon Lezion a few days ago, where a 16-year-old boy was stabbed after an altercation with a classmate at school.
Magen David Adom arrived at the scene and found the student had been lightly wounded after being stabbed in the hand with a sharp object.
