Car hits group of cyclists on Route 3 killing 2

Driver falls asleep at the wheel near Nahal Sorek, hits cyclists on shoulder of road; 5 others injured, taken to Kaplan Medical Center.

Two bicyclists, both Rishon Lezion residents in their 60s, were killed Saturday morning after being hit by a car on Route 3 near Nahal Sorek.
The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle was returning from a night out in Ashdod with a friend when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, veering onto the shoulder and striking a group of riders. He has been detained for questioning.

City Notes: Bicyclists get new trails In addition to the two dead, 5 other riders were injured. Two of those injured were in moderate to serious condition, and the other three sustained light injuries. All of the injured were taken to Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot for treatment.
Friday night, two other bicyclists were found unconscious and in serious condition near Kiryat Malachi.
MDA paramedics treated the men on the scene before evacuating them to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer with head wounds.
