As Passover winds down, reform rabbi Susan Silverman discusses the messages that can be taken from the Passover story and how they can be applied to life in Israel today.
Drawing lessons from the mistakes made by Pharaoh in Egypt, she says: "We mustn't project our fear onto other people. Fear is not a justification for oppressing another people."
Explaining that the issue of asylum seekers in Israel is close to her heart, Rabbi Silverman recalls the story of the Moabites refusing to bring the Israelites water in the desert and says our discussions should go differently to the ones the Moabites had.
"Let's just try kindness," Silverman drums home on several issues that are raised. "Fear must not overcome kindness."
