Madonna on Monday posted on Instagram a picture depicting a Jewish and Muslim man about to kiss, captioned with a heart emoji and the hashtag #rebelhearts.

A wide array of reactions predictably ensued after the photograph was published, some iterating that the photograph ran counter to the ideals of their faith, while others embraced its positive message of love.

One commentator, for example, offered the argument that "Islam doesn't support homosexuality and if someone does not like that then they don't have to be Muslim. Its that's simple."

While others offered more of an affirmative stance: "If this pic portraying love between two human beings is 'causing a commotion'....YOU PEOPLE HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS."
