1 FILM: THE RAVAGES OF WAR

2 MUSIC: OUD FROM AROUND THE WORLD

The International Oud Festival Jerusalem 2014 starts next Thursday, organized by Confederation House. The opening night of the festival is titled “Slaves on Horses, Rulers in Chains,” a performance by vocalist-composer Corinne Allal singing Ecclesiastes at the Jerusalem Theater.

3 ONE AT A TIME

The first One-Man Band Festival will take place in Tel Aviv. One of the highlights of the festival is British phenomenon Bob Log III, who will be performing as part of his international tour. He appears on stage wearing a shiny suit and a motorcycle helmet and plays loud rock ’n’ roll.

Singer-songwriter Tom Waits, a fan of his, says, “It’s just the loudest, strangest stuff you’ve ever heard.”

4 BLUES KINGS

Ronnie Peterson and Lazer Lloyd, two American-born blues singers, joined forces last summer and now have a new acoustic show that features famous blues tunes, as well as their own work. Coming from very different backgrounds, the two are connected by their love of the music that originates from Chicago.

5 DIALOGUES WITH GIANTS

The Revolution Orchestra presents Re:Play, an audiovisual production that brings to life some of the musical giants of all times, such as Edith Piaf, Jimmy Hendrix, John Lennon and Freddie Mercury, through musical “dialogues” composed for the show.

6 JAZZ CELEBRATION

As part of the Israeli Opera’s 30th anniversary celebrations, the jazz series hosts composer-saxophonist Eli Degibri presenting the best of his work, with arrangements by American musician Mike Holober, who will also be conducting a jazz ensemble and a big-band plus string orchestra.

7 ART THE ART OF ACCUMULATION

The Galilee’s communal gallery The Edge presents “Accumulated Situations,” an exhibition of works by veteran artist Avraham Eilat. He has exhibited in one-man shows and group shows in major Israeli and international museums. This exhibition presents works from assorted series and different periods.

8 DIGITAL SHAKESPEARE

The Cameri Theater’s Shakespeare Festival opened last Tuesday and as part of the festival, Sarah Ellis of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s digital project, will give a talk about the company’s digital production of Midsummer Night’s Dreaming last year in England, in which the audience was asked to use their cell-phones to participate in the production.

: THE CAT’S MEOW

The award-winning West End production of Cats is coming to Israel for a week. Since its debut in 1981, more than 50 million people in 26 countries have enjoyed the award-winning Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.
