Yuri Foreman will become the first Israeli boxer to ever fight in a recognized championship bout, it was announced on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old pugilist, who moved to Israel from Belarus at the age of nine and is undefeated in 27 professional fights, will go up against WBA super welterweight title-holder Daniel Santos, possibly on the undercard of the highly anticipated showdown between WBO welterweight champ Miguell Cotto and the pound-for-pound king of the ring Manny Pacquaio.
Foreman earned the fight by being the mandatory challenger for the belt. As of May 2009, the Israeli was also ranked No. 5 by the WBC as a super welterweight and No. 3 by the IBF in the junior welterweight division.
The date for the Foreman-Santos fight has not yet been officially released, but it seems as if it may land on November 14 in Las Vegas.
