Sparkling blue skies and a gentle breeze off the Mediterranean Sea greeted more than 100 golfers who participated in the annual Volvo Golf Tournament in Caesarea last Thursday.This was the 12th year that Mayer Group, importers of Volvo cars to Israel, sponsored the competition in cooperation with the Caesarea Golf Club. The grand prize for this prestigious tournament included transportation and accommodation for participation in the Global Volvo Tournament to be held in South Africa in January 2015.Played under modified Stableford rules, the tournament was held in two categories.In the Gold category, Moti Fishman took home the grand prize as tournament champion with a score of 39 points. Meir Assayag’s 35 points gave him second place, and Chanoch Reichenberg was an additional point back in third place.Gershon Blumberg’s 35 points topped the Silver category. Aaron Mizrachi and Serena Tublaeim were tied at 34, with Mizrachi taking second place on the tiebreak.Hilton Levin’s tee shot on the 12th hole came to rest 2.26 meters from the hole, earning him “closest-to-the-pin” honors. His luck continued as he won the raffle entitling him to a “Fun Weekend” with one of the Volvos.Barry Shaked won the “longest drive” competition, with Serena Tublaeim and Michal Ronen sharing the honors among the women competitors.Players and spectators were able to take a close-up look at the newest Volvo models that were on display on the Club’s beautifully manicured lawns.The display continued on Friday, when Honda and Jaguar models were added to the exhibition.
