Jason Lezak claimed his second gold medal of the Maccabiah Games at the Wingate Institute on Monday, while Israel's top swimmers continued to show they are ready for next week's World Championships in Rome.
The three-time US Olympic gold medalist, who won his first gold of the Maccabiah in the 100 meters freestyle on Sunday, anchored the American 4x100m freestyle relay team and despite entering the pool behind Israel's final swimmer, quickly surged into the lead and secured his team's victory, touching the wall after 3:21.17 minutes.
The US also beat out Israel in the women's 4x100m freestyle final, winning in a time of 3:53.55m.
Amit Ivri shattered her own Israeli record in the 100m butterfly on Monday, winning the event in 58.50 seconds, more than half a second faster than her previous best.
Ivri is one of Israel's 19 swimmers to compete at next week's World Championships and she is looking forward to lowering her record even further in Italy.
"This is part of my preparation for the worlds. Everything is ready for next week," Ivri said.
Alon Mandel, who will also compete in Rome, equaled his Israeli record in the men's 100m butterfly final, completing the race in 52.99s to finish in first position.
Andrea Murez continued her excellent Maccabiah, winning the women's 200m freestyle in 2:03.45m.
Israeli youngster Denis Gayvoronskiy made the most of the absence of the big guns from the men's 200m free final, recording a personal best of 1.51.70m to claim the gold medal.
Gal Nevo, who finished in 13th and 11th place respectively in the 200m and 400m Individual Medley at the Beijing Games, added a Maccabiah gold to his resume on Monday, winning in a time of 4:19.37m.
"At the Olympics I finished twice in the top 13, so naturally my goal is to continue and improve. I hope to reach a final in Rome," Nevo said.
The women's 400m IM was won by Amit Bechar in a time of 4:57.15m.
