Optica International defeated the Morningside Warriors 11-9 on Thursday to secure a spot in the Jerusalem Softball league finals.
It was the third-straight playoff win for OI over the Warriors dating back to last year’s finals when MW won the first game and OI took the championship with two straight victories.
The semifinal game was a back and forth affair with OI securing the win with the tying runs on base in the seventh and last inning.
OI scored in each of their six innings and held the Warrior to under ten runs for the third time this season.
OI got a balanced hitting attack with Eli Samet and Joe Schrader banged out three hits each. Josh Wajcman had two hits and scored three runs. Shortstop Yair Gewirtz had several stellar defensive plays at short and knocked in the winning runs with a sixth inning single and the MVP of the game.
Pitcher Danny Gewirtz gave up several hits but got out of the big inning when he needed to.
OI will be gunning for back-to-back championships this week.
