Guy Azuri resigned as Maccabi Petah Tikva coach on Monday amidst rumors that the club's management wasn't pleased with his work.
Petah Tikva is currently sixth in the Premier League standings, losing just three games so far this season.
The team, however, hasn't won in eight matches and after reading in the morning papers that club owner Amos Luzon would like to get rid of him, Azuri decided to take matters into his own hands and quit.
"Guy decided to resign due to the many rumors regarding the management's dissatisfaction with the team's recent performances," read a statement released by Petah Tikva.
"I'm very sorry about Guy's decision," club chairman Shino Zuaretz said. "I tried to convince him to stay, as we wanted to see him remain at the club in the long term. However, he was determined to quit his position."
Zuaretz also revealed that he would like to see former Maccabi Haifa coach Roni Levy replace Azuri, who became the fifth coach in just over a year to leave Petah Tikva, joining Yossi Mizrahi, Ofer Fabian, Guy Luzon and Nitzan Shirazi.
