Last week's Israel Softball Association games saw Penticon and Shimshon Hi Tech clinch first place in the A and B Pools, respectively, while the Galil Twisters were relegated to the B Pool.
Penticon defeated Ziontours 11-8, the Dawgs mauled the Cerveceros 25-12, the Tigers eliminated the Galil Twisters 7-6, Dimona blanked Shimshon Hi Tech 15-0 and the Cerveceros nipped Re/Max-Ra'anana 18-16. In women's games, Tigers B edged Dimona 8-7.
Penticon 11 Ziontours 8
On Sunday, newcomer David Brook homered for the third straight game as Penticon clinched first place in the A Pool with a convincing win over Ziontours.
Ami Baran shut down the Ziontours offense, but Aviv Yaakov's grand slam off of reliever Sholom Menorah in the fifth narrowed the score to 9-7. Ziontours could get no closer.
Dawgs 25 Cerveceros 12
The surging Dawgs, who have now won three of their last five games, allowed Shimshon Hi Tech to clinch first place in the B Pool by eliminating the Cerveceros.
Budding star Daniel Baram pitched well, keeping the Cerveceros off balance with a mix of fastballs and junk. The Dawgs defense was outstanding, with Junior National star Maor Mama grabbing seven balls in centerfield.
Yoshi Higuchi led the offense with a home run and three RBI singles and Brent White also homered, Mama and Eden Bir each tripled and newcomers Noam Zemer and Jonathan Shechter were each 3-4. Saul Kaim smacked a homer for the Cerveceros.
Coach Natan Mandel expressed his pleasure at the performance. "We had one of our strongest teams this season, and everyone performed their job beautifully," he said.
Tigers 7 Galil Twisters 6
The Tigers relegated the Twisters to the B Pool on Tuesday in a nail-biter. The teams traded leads early on until Yaniv Rosenfeld's towering two-run home run off of Goose Gillett gave the Northerners a 6-5 lead after four.
Shlomi Mor Hayim's laser-beam triple to the right field fence in the fifth off of Bill Arscott tied it and then Ilan Spira's RBI groundout gave the Tigers the lead for good.
Dimona 15 Shimshon Hi Tech 0
Yarone Ben-Israel pitched his second consecutive 2-hitter, allowing only two singles while fanning nine and walking none. On offense for the Southerners, Amikai Ben-Israel tripled and homered and Yarone helped himself with a 3-4 night.
Cerveceros 18 Re/Max-Ra'anana 16
The Cerveceros scored three runs in the top of the sixth for an exciting comeback win on Wednesday. Re/Max held a 13-6 advantage after four, but the Cerveceros plated nine in the fifth.
Ra'anana answered with three of their own for a 16-15 lead and pitcher Carlos Hidalgo-Grass set Re/Max down in order in the bottom of the sixth. Alberto Tacher and Hidalgo-Grass were each 4-5 for the Tel Aviv team.
