Israel's Shahar Pe'er on Monday defeated Russian Anna Chakvetadze (19) in the third round of the $4.5 million Indian Wells tournament in California 6-2, 6-4.
Her next match will be against eighth-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, who defeated Elena Vesnina of Russia 6-3, 7-5.
Chakvetadze came into the match with Pe'er with a 4-1 headto-head advantage, but lost to the Israeli in the fourth round in Indian Wells two years ago.
Pe'er claimed her most impressive win of the year on Friday, defeating world number 12 Marion Bartoli 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the second round.
