CNN "reserves the right" to expose the real name and identity of the Reddit user who created racist and violent content involving the news network and its workers.
CNN reporters used details on the user's Reddit account to crack his real-life identity, according to JTA.
After CNN attempted to contact the man, who used the name of "HanAssholeSolo" to post his works on 'The Donald', a section of Reddit devoted to US President Trump, he published an apology on same site.
"I am in no way this kind of person," wrote the user, "I was trolling and posting things to get a reaction."
After the video was tweeted by President Trump, "HanAssholesolo" gained a great deal of attention. It was then discovered that he has a checkered past which includes racist and antisemitic posts.
One of his posts was a doctored image of CNN reporters, managers, and staff marked with Stars of David.
"I love and accept people of all walks of life," stated the user's on-line apology, "I would never support any kind of violence."
CNN stated on Tuesday evening that it would not make the man's identity public as he fears for his safety and the possible damage to his family and reputation.
CNN did "reserve the right to publish his identity" if more inflammatory content should appear online and be traced back to him.
The moderators of 'The Donald' have removed the apology since it was posted.
The CNN investigation was conducted by KFile, described by CNN as " the leading investigation team for the social, mobile generation."
