U.S Government shuts down

US government agencies face exhausted funds after Congress did not pass new appropriations laws on Friday night as Democrats and Republicans failed to reach agreements. Senate failed to pass bill to fund government 50 - 49; 60 votes were needed. The White House stated it will not negotiate the status of DACA immigrants 'While Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands.' Calling it 'the Schumer Shutdown', the White House labeled the shutdown after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Schumer claimed that he offered to 'put the border wall on the table' during his discussions with Trump but the president declined to make a deal. He added that when the president decides to lead his party to a deal, the Democrats would be ready. As Federal agencies without an appropriation law in force may not spend money, they will be unable to function. This does not include Social Security or Medicare as these agencies do not require annual appropriations. Nor does it include services 'necessary to protect life or property' such as the US military or foreign embassies, the LA Times . This is the first US government shutdown since 2013.
