The Acre Festival's 2008 Best Production prize was awarded to 22 Pictures last week; the play's writer and director, Ruthie Osterman, with Yael Libman as codirector, took the NIS 25,000. Nava Frankel won the NIS 10,000 Mayor's Most Promising Artist Prize for her Little Vacation.
The Osterman/Libman drama asks what constitutes home for three generations of women, and in Little Vacation, a family must discover what defines its relationships.
Best Actor and Actress prizes went, respectively, to Eran Boheme for The Madwomen of Jaffa and Roba Balal for Messiki.
Participants rallied around the new Acre festival date from December 22-25, and all of the nine originally scheduled competition plays were performed for near-capacity audiences. Additionally, there were some 30 free theater and music events performed in a large tent and other sheltered venues, lest rain spoil the party.
