Some 60 directors, producers and other key theater personnel from around the world will participate in IsraDrama 2008, the fifth annual showcase in English for Israeli plays and scriptwriting, that will take place in Tel Aviv from December 3-7. The theme this year is political theater, women playwrights and the special events celebrating Habima's 90th birthday. The guests, coming from some 20 countries, will see 14 productions, such as The Return to Haifa, Requiem (Cameri), Masked (Arab-Hebrew Theater), Anda (Beit Lessin) and Nutcase (Habima), with English subtitles. There will also be presentations, lectures and encounters with local playwrights, actors and other creative personnel. The event is sponsored by the Hanoch Levin Israeli Playwriting Institute, founded in 2000 following the playwright's death from cancer. The institute is dedicated to the promotion of Israeli play production around the world and sponsors, among the rest, the translation of plays into other languages.
