The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra will celebrate Mendelssohn's 200th birthday in a special concert on June 11 to open the Bach Festival in Leipzig. Leon Botstein will conduct the Elijah oratory at the St. Thomas Church, where Bach was a cantor and was buried.
The Bach festival is held there annually, featuring the world's leading orchestras, ensembles and soloists. This is the first time an Israeli orchestra will perform at the festival.
