Spanish flamenco dancer Nuria Pomares is starring in Manuel de Falla's opera La vida breve (Life is Short) at the Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv through June 15. The Israel Philharmonic is being conducted by Spain's Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, with soloists Maria Rodriguez, Marina Pardo, Vicente Ombuena, Gustavo Pena, Pedro Sanz, Alfredo Garcia and Josep Miquel Ramon performing. The opera is in two acts and tells the story of a young gypsy in love with a man who she does not know is already engaged. When she discovers the truth, she confronts him, he denies knowing her and she dies at his feet. La vida breve is unusual for the equal time it devotes to orchestral and vocal music.
