With worldwide record sales in the millions, and dozens of platinum and gold albums to his credit, legendary crooner Tony Bennett has just announced he will be performing in Israel for the first time this September. The 87-year old singer will play a show on September 14 at Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv.Famous for his hits “Steppin’ Out With my Baby” and “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” Bennett has won 17 Grammy Awards for his music.Bennett had his first number-one popular song with “Because of You” in 1951.Several top hits such as “Rags to Riches” followed in the early 1950s. Over his career Bennett has collaborated with musicians including Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Lady Gaga.He has been recognized for his philanthropic efforts. He raised millions of dollars for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.In 2007 he was honored for his contributions to the United Nations.In 2011, Bennett released an album, Duets II, in which his duet with Amy Winehouse on “Body and Soul” – reportedly the last recording she made before her death – charted on the lower reaches of the Billboard Hot 100, making Bennett the oldest living artist to appear there, as well as the artist with the greatest span of appearances.
