The weather is heating up and that yeast-free week is of distant memory. Conditions are perfect for beer. With Independence Day still fresh in our minds, it's a damn good time to celebrate Israeli microbrews. Local brews it seems, are hot on the tails of the local wine revolution, the fruits of which continue to prove themselves deliciously enjoyable. This week there are three events in which we at Billboard suggest you attend via public transport, designated driver or your own two feet.
Big Brew Day, the unofficial holiday of home brewers around the world, is on May 2. Tel Aviv's NG Meat Bar in Neve Tzedek celebrates throughout the month of May with eight local microbrews including Golda, Dancing Camel, Shap-beer and Isis. The Eighth Beer Festival at Kibbutz Mabarot is always great fun. This year, 50 breweries from all over the world participate, including many Israeli microbreweries. As usual, the Beermaster group - considered the local experts on that wonderful stuff - has organized the festival. (They also organized NG's festival). In addition to the beers, the festival includes raffles, beer games, food stands and more. And, today, Friday, Tel Mond's Porterhouse holds a barbecue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with chef Yossi Asraf.
