Japanese author Haruki Murakami will receive The Jerusalem Prize on the opening day of the 24th International Book Fair on February 15 in the capital. Mayor Nir Barkat will present the award. Murakami, whose 20 books have been translated into 40 languages, was chosen by a panel of judges for his "artistic achievements and love of people." A number of his books have appeared in Hebrew, including Norwegian Wood, Kafka on the Shore and Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. The prize is typically awarded to authors whose writings express the idea of the individual's freedom in society.
