SUNDAY IS International Women's Day, which is being marked on Israel Radio's Reshet Gimmel as women interview women, beginning at 7 a.m. and continuing until 5 p.m. First up is Vered Yiftahi interviewing journalist Sarah Beck. Next is Esti Perez interviewing former colleague and current Labor MK Shelly Yacimovich, followed by Anat Dolev interviewing prize-winning military correspondent Carmela Menashe; Tzaga Malko will speak with actress Gila Almagor and Tal Hashiloni is talking to popular singer Etti Ankri. Michal Ramot will interview author and scriptwriter Anat Gov; and Galit Gura-Eini is hosting singer Vered Klepter. Iris Lavi will talk to dancer and choreographer Rina Schoenfeld, and there will be a special broadcast from the Voice of Jezreel located in the Jezreel Valley College with Anat Sharon interviewing radio and television personalities Ilana Dayan and Yael Dan.
MAY WILL be an important month for singer Achinoam Nini, who will not only appear with Mira Awad in the Eurovision, but is also scheduled to complete shooting the feature film Rimon Hazahav. The movie is based on the book The Pomegranate Pendant, by author and journalist Dvora Waysman, whose byline has frequently appeared in The Jerusalem Post as well as numerous other publications. A coproduction of California-based Praxis Films and Mevasseret Zion-based Gershom Productions, the film is being shot in the Old City of Jerusalem and stars Dan Turgeman, who is also its director.
AFTER EIGHT months of getting to know each other, actress Michal Yanai and businessman Ben Muscal finally tied the knot last Tuesday at the Theater Club in Old Jaffa. The wedding wasn't quite as dazzling a spectacle as Yanai's first at the Caesarea Amphitheater several years ago, which resulted in a short-lived marriage to Ofer Resles, but there were some 500 guests there to wish the couple well. Missing among the guests - even though she had an invitation - was Yanai's close friend Kochi Mordechai, who was stuck in a villa in Neveh Ilan with fellow Big Brother VIP contestants. Resles wasn't invited to the wedding, but one of Yanai's former significant others, Yariv Horowitz, was. In many respects, it was a celebrity wedding - with lots of showbiz people, such as Moshe Datz, Zvika Pik (whose daughters are holed up with Mordechai), Adir Miller, Efrat Boimwald (who used to be the significant other of Yehuda Levy before he took up with Ninet Tayeb and who is now engaged to Ofer Eisenberg, the father of the baby she is expecting), Oded Menashe and his wife Eden Harel (who the previous evening had emceed the pre-Eurovision program on TV). The newlyweds spent the first night of their honeymoon in the NIS 9,100-a-night Presidential Suite of the nearby Dan Panorama Hotel, which they had also taken for the day of the wedding to get ready for the big event. Hotel staff decorated the bed with the heads of large, pale pink roses which were placed in the shape of a heart. The hotel also provided platters of fruit and vegetables and a bottle of champagne.
ALTHOUGH THEY had no problem posing for the paparazzi, stage and screen personalities Alma Zak and Alon Neuman drew the line when it came to putting their newborn daughter into focus. After five days they still didn't have a name for her, and they didn't think it was right to allow the paparazzi to take her photo until she had a name.
FOR THE first time ever, the annual Theatroneto festival in Jaffa will include a production in Yiddish: Lansky, whose cast will include prize-winning actor Ya'akov Bodo. Bodo was recently nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award, which he will receive next month at the Israel Theater Prize ceremony in Beersheba, just a few days prior to the opening of Theatroneto.
PERHAPS OF interest to Jewish readers and members of the gay community are the reports that American pop singer and actress Lindsay Lohan, who was born and raised a Catholic, is converting to Judaism in order to marry her girlfriend, British pop singer and DJ Samantha Ronson. Lohan made her decision public on Facebook and flew to London to be with Ronson at the Westminster Synagogue at the bar mitzva of Ronson's half brother, Joshua Ronson. When British journalists asked Lohan if she was really converting, she said she was trying.
