Shohat goes city hopping

Shohat goes city hopping Composer Gil Shohat's new requiem will have its world premiere at Capella Amsterdam on March 18. Commissioned by Spain's Conjunto Iberico cello ensemble (six voices, eight celli), the requiem, to be sung in the traditional Latin, is one of four vocal works Conjunto ordered from contemporary composers throughout the world. Before that, Shohat will fly to Hong Kong to perform his own "Sparks from the Beyond" on the piano at a gala concert in his honor at the Hong Kong Academy of the Performing Arts. While there, Shohat will also give a composition master class. Sparks was composed in 1997 for the Rubinstein Piano Competition where it won first prize among Israeli works submitted for the Israeli section of the competition. Shohat currently serves as artistic director and chief conductor of the Israel Chamber Orchestra. KDC dances for the Russians The Kibbutz Dance Company has flown to Moscow to open the Grand Ballet Festival with Rami Be'er's "On Reaching the Sun" that premiered locally last year. This is the second time that KDC has danced for the festival and its third visit to Russia. Previous performances were, respectively, "Screensaver" (2003) and "Aide Memoire" (2000) both by Be'er who is artistic director of the company. KDC performed on February 8 and 9. Ido Tadmor takes to the Hothouse Choreographer/dancer Ido Tadmor has been appointed head of Hothouse Dance 2 at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, a joint project funded by the Israel Opera and the dance department at the Arts and Culture Administration. The project is designed to provide a platform for young dance artists whose work is movement centered, but also draws on a variety of other artistic disciplines, including the plastic arts. The selection process is currently underway and a program will be presented to the public in May.
