By JERUSALEM POST STAFF, APkim cattrall 88 298(photo credit: )'Sex'-less in the Holy CitySex and the City star Kim Cattrall, who was slated to appear at the Jerusalem Film Festival as part of the Canadian delegation, has cancelled her trip, festival organizers reported earlier this week.
The 49-year-old Cattrall, who immigrated as a baby from England to Canada, portrayed blonde bombshell Samantha on the popular HBO series for six seasons, winning a Golden Globe in 2003 and earning five consecutive Emmy nominations between 2000 and 2004. The co-author of 2002 bestseller Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm, the actress was to have appeared alongside seven other Canadian actors, directors and producers at the 10-day festival, which starts tonight. Festival organizers said they hadn't been told why Cattrall cancelled her trip, but said that the rest of the Canadian delegation, including Oscar-nominated director Atom Egoyan, would appear as planned. R&B producer Dallas Austin has been released from a jail in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, after being pardoned on drug charges.
"He is on the plane and safely out of the country," Austin's lawyer, Joel A. Katz, wrote in an e-mail to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dubai ruler Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum pardoned Austin on Tuesday, hours after the Grammy-winning producer was sentenced to four years in prison for possession of cocaine. A court had sentenced Austin, who has worked with Madonna and Janet Jackson, for possessing 1.26 grams of cocaine, and ruled that he should be deported after serving his prison term. Austin told the court on Sunday that he had made a mistake and did not mean to break the law in the United Arab Emirates. Since his arrest, Austin had been held without bail at Dubai's al-Rashidiya Police Station.
Austin has several hit songs to his credit, including Pink's "Just Like a Pill" and TLC's "Unpretty." He won a Grammy Award for best R&B album in 1999 for producing TLC's multi-platinum Fanmail.- AP
'The Covenant' tours Europe
The Covenant, a play chronicling the Jewish people's history from Abraham to the founding of modern Israel, has embarked on a European tour after playing in America and Israel. The musical, which was produced by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, is an original drama written and directed by Robert and Elizabeth Muren. The play's purpose is to show the path of the children of Israel and God's promise of the land of Israel to Abraham, according to the musical's website. "The latter half of our tour will be throughout the German-speaking parts of central Europe," ICEJ music director Chuck King said in a press release. "This gives us an amazing opportunity to bring this powerful message of the divine calling and unique history of the Jewish people to areas once darkened by the shadow of Nazism." The Covenant's six-week tour began June 23 in Cordoba, Spain, and ends July 30 in Leipzig. - Aliza Appelbaum
