On Monday July 6 to Wednesday July 8, the Upper Galilee is hosting the 11th annual Not in Heaven festival. The cultural festival includes around 70 events in a collection of different media, including lectures, speeches, panels, theatrical performances, musical concerts and literary readings. Among the performances are Odessa, Andalusia, Israel, which follows the development of liturgical poems in those countries; a musical and theatrical show dedicated to famed poet Tirza Atar and starring her son; and a lecture about astrology and magic, witchcraft, and sorcery within Jewish philosophy. The event covers mostly anniversary celebrations - the 100th anniversaries of Tel Aviv, Kibbutz Degania and the Kibbutz movement; the Jewish Agency's 80th anniversary; and 75 years since the death of poet Haim Nahman Bialik. The purpose of the festival is to bring a variety of audiences - religious, non-religious, cultural, traditional, intellectual and more, explained festival representative Eleanor Glickman.
