Animated films set in Israel and Iran are among five competitors for best foreign-language film at the British Academy Film Awards. Waltz With Bashir and Persepolis were announced Wednesday as nominees. The British awards, known as BAFTA, are considered an indicator of success at the Academy Awards. The other nominees in the category are Germany's The Baader Meinhof Complex, Italian underworld expose Gomorrah and French family drama I've Loved You So Long. Waltz With Bashir is set during Israel's 1982 Lebanon War. Persepolis adapts writer Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel about childhood in revolutionary Iran. The rest of the BAFTA nominees will be announced January 15. The awards will be handed out February 8 in London.
