Karen Sabag, a young Israeli designer, beat out 800 other entrants to win a Kleinfeld Bridal and Contrex Mineral Water-sponsored design contest this month. On October 24 Sabag showed her collection at the Aveda Academy in downtown New York. The collection has been described as a heavily ornamented selection of show-stopping bridal gowns, best suited to the woman who, naturally, wants to be the center of attention on her big day. Many dresses featured tightly laced corsets and the classically Spanish flamenco dancer trumpet silhouette. Others had a more vintage feel, designed to look like heirlooms. Sabag went for an over-the-top look with fabrics heavily worked with beaded embellishment and frothy layers of tulle - a bridal look not entirely unfamiliar in Israel. Still, Sabag proved her skills and is now considered a designer to watch.
