On Saturday night at the Einav Music Center in Tel Aviv, 12 musicians and dancers will celebrate virtuoso Gypsy swing in a festive program. Since its establishment in 2007 with the objective of bringing Gypsy swing music to Israeli audiences, Ensemble Swing de Gitanes has already given more than 300 performances, which weave a musical tale of the two-fingered founder of the genre, Django Reinhardt and his Gypsy music. Their repertoire includes compositions by Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, popular songs from 1920s- 1940s Paris, contemporary Gypsy jazz and original compositions with unique arrangements that incorporate elements of Yiddish songs, Middle Eastern flavors and a hypnotizing virtuosity.
Saturday, 9:30 p.m., Einav Music Center (on the roof of Gan Ha’ir), Tel Aviv. For reservations: (03) 604-5000.
