Arts in Brief: Ochoa to bring lilt to TA

Buena Vista Social Club member to perform Cuban music.

One of the charter members of the famed Buena Vistia Social Club, Eliades Ochoa, will be showing his authentic Cuban roots music on July 27 at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center.
Ochoa is considered one of the most important Cuban “soneros” of all time and a guardian of traditional Cuban music. In 1996, when guitar legend Ry Cooder gathered some of the Cuban music greats in the studio to make the Grammy Award-winning Buena Vista Social Club album, the 64-year-old Ochoa was one of the staples.
The original lineup of the Buena Vista Social Club made only threeconcert appearances, the latter of which was filmed by Wim Wenders asthe climax of his popular documentary on the band. Ochoa continues torecord albums and now tours with his own seven-piece Buena Vista SocialClub.
