Cesaria Evora returns to Israel

The 67-year-old Grammy winner is perhaps the best internationally known practitioner of morna, songs of sadness, sorrow and yearning.

The Barefoot Diva, Cesaria Evora, is returning to Israel for two performances - on January 26 at the Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv and the next night at Binyanei Hauma in Jerusalem. The 67-year-old Grammy winner from Cape Verde is perhaps the best internationally known practitioner of morna, songs of sadness, sorrow and yearning. Evora only broke out as a world-class singer at age 45, after struggling in poverty for much of her life. This will be her fifth visit to Israel since her debut in 1996. Evora will appear with a seven-piece band and perform a wide range of selections for her varied career.
