Producer Eli Grünfeld has been organizing intercultural festivals dedicated to bridging the abyss between ourselves and the Arab world. For his efforts on behalf of peace and intercultural dialogue he has received this year's Prix Italia. This year's Culture of Peace Festival - the seventh - celebrates 30 years of peace between Egypt and Israel; it opens on Monday and there will be a gala on May 21 at the Petah Tikva Auditorium in the presence of Egyptian Ambassador Yasser Reda. The main event will be held May 23 at Tzavta, featuring Radiodervish, the Lebanese/Italian band created by Nabil Salameh, whose ancestors emigrated to Lebanon from Jaffa - yes, Derech Salemeh is named for the family. Israel's recent Eurovision representatives, Mira Awad and Achinoam Nini, will also perform at the festival, giving their renditions of famous songs from Egyptian films. Festival events draw on Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and Sufi traditions. Info and tickets: (03) 695-0156.
