The Hullegeb Israeli-Ethiopian Arts Festival began last Thursday with a most exciting premier of Mahmoud Ahmed, the greatest living Ethiopian vocalist, accompanied by an ensemble of Israeli musicians led by saxophonist and vocalist Abate Berihun. On Saturday the Reggae combo Zebulon Dub System arranged Ethiopian songs in the spirit of reggae and the Dub. On Sunday singer-songwriter Ayala Ingedashet presented her new performance, A New Road, featuring her free and uncompromising musical path.Today, Ester Rada, one of the important discoveries on Israel’s current music scene, will pay tribute to the musical legacy of Nina Simone, “the high-priestess of soul music”. On Tuesday, The Hullegeb Israeli-Ethiopian Theater, will premier its new production, Tsufit Pikado, a wild, nonsensical comedy. The festival will be closed on Wednesday with a celebreation of the 20th anniversary of Shlomo Gronich and the Sheba Choir with new arrangements and many guests.For more info visit www.confederationhouse.org.
