Two international rockers will go head to head in Tel Aviv on June 30.
New wave-era tunesemith Joe Jackson will be making a return visit at the Hangar. Last year, the versatile singer/songwriter and pianist best known for hits like "Stepping Out" and "Is She Really Going Out With Him" performed outstanding shows here with his original bass and drums accompaniment. According to attendees, the once-angry young man did not miss a step.
For those more interested in electric guitar virtuosity, six-string wizard Steve Vai will be making his Israeli debut the same night at the Heichal Hatarbut, offering a master class called Alien Guitar Secrets. One-time guitarist for Frank Zappa, the 48-year-old American has long been linked to another lightning fast guitarist: Joe Satriani. While he's anchored David Lee Roth's band and held a slot for a short time in Whitesnake, it's Vai's solo career - consisting of largely instrumental music - which has really made his name among fans of guitar histrionics. Not to mention his inventing a seven-string guitar in the 1990s that ended up being used by the nu-metal bands of the day like Korn and Limp Bizkit.
Vai's Alien Guitar Secrets includes a discussion of music theory, guitar techniques, the music business and techniques on how to discover and unlock personal musical identity. There will also be a Q&A session, and a few lucky attendees will be chosen to jam with Vai.
