Pianist Pogorelich on a Chopin spree

Croatian pianist Ivo Pogorelich will appear in Israel come March for a series of recitals dedicated to Chopin and marking 200 years since the composer's birth. Pogorelich, who first performed here two years ago, will play in Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv.
A graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, Pogorelich is a winner of the Casagrande Competition in Terni, Italy in 1978 and the Montreal International Music Competition in 1980. However, he ultimately became truly famous for the prize he didn't win.
In 1980 Pogorelich entered the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw and was eliminated in the third round.
Argentine pianist Martha Argerich proclaimed him a genius and left the jury in protest.
