Tel Aviv musician Kutiman, who styles himself as a "psychedelic funk architect" has designed and constructed a doozy of a musical mashup. His Internet album Thru You, consisting of music videos completely made out of remixed YouTube footage, has become an overnight sensation on the Web.
According to his record company NMC, over a half million people have viewed songs from the site (www.thru-you.com) in the past week.
Kutiman - whose real name is Ophir Kutiel - takes YouTube footage of people giving gear demos and lessons on how to play certain riffs or musical passages and combines them into cohesive and soulful songs, bringing user-generated content to the next level.
Kutiman sat in his bedroom studio and watched and sorted thousands of music videos uploaded to YouTube mostly by anonymous users. He chose around 100 of these videos - featuring both musical instruments, vocals, toys and other surprising artifacts - and fused them together into Thru You. Available at your nearest computer.
