Red Sea classical music fest inducts Israeli conductor

Red Sea classical music

The traditional Classics at the Red Sea Festival, presented by Mariinsky Theater from Saint Petersburg, takes place January 14-17 in Eilat. Joining artistic director Mariinsky Valery Gergiev in Israel's southern sea resort will be 270 orchestra and choir members, as well as his top caliber soloists. For the first time, an Israeli conductor, Dan Ettinger, will participate. Ettinger, a young Israeli maestro with an impressive international career, will open the festival with Verdi's La Traviata. The program also features the monumental 5-act The Trojans, by Hector Berlioz, which will be performed in two parts, and pieces by Igor Stravinsky - The Wedding, Firebird and Symphonies of Wind Instruments. The operatic and symphony concerts will be performed at a hangar at the Eilat port, while variegated chamber concerts will be presented by Mariinsky's artists at the concert hall of the Royal Garden hotel. • Maxim Reider
