Opening October 16 and running into the middle of November is the third annual Tel Aviv Dance Festival.
A combined effort of the Tel Aviv Municipality, Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, the Suzanne Dellal Center and a host of other bodies, this year's roster features 16 companies from 10 countries.
Whereas previous years have focused on dance from Europe, this year artistic director Yair Vardi has turned his eye to the east. Companies from China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea will make their way to Israel over the coming month.
Other sure-fire highlights are Hubbard Street Dance Chicago's repertoire and Last Touch by Czech choreographer Jiri Kylian, which will open the festival. Construct, by the late Australian choreographer Tania Liedtke, will be one of a selection of performances to take place both in Haifa and Tel Aviv, part of an effort by Ido Tadmor to bring more cultural events to Haifa.
Representing local dance, as always, is the Batsheva Dance Company, with two works by Ohad Naharin, Mamootot and Hora.
Closing the festival on November 12 and 13 is the premiere of Barak Marshall's new work Rooster at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center.
