The difference between a slut and a sheep

If you were a policemen, would you know the difference between a sheep and a slut?

I am not sure about the police, but I know that the difference is that one can go on display and the other, well, cannot.

As reported in this newspaper,

Jerusalem police decided Thursday to block a right-wing march on the Temple Mount that was scheduled for Sunday afternoon, saying it would endanger the public. Some 200 activists were expected to march with 20 sheep to the Temple Mount plaza.

The activists wanted to protest the fact that they cannot perform ritual sacrifices on the Temple Mount. "This procession would cause danger to the peace and would raise the possibility of disturbances from different sources," Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben Ruby said on Thursday. Ben Ruby added that there would be increased police presence in the Old City on Sunday in order to stop any attempts to sneak sheep into unacceptable places.

If you do not know, Sunday is 14th Iyar, which is Pesach Sheni.  Better late than never.

As the INN site noted however:

...Left-wing activists were granted permission, however, to carry out a controversial march in Jerusalem this Friday that already drew hundreds in Haifa and Tel Aviv. At least 160 people have committed to attend the event.  Known as the “SlutWalk” rally, the march is intended to underscore a woman''s right to dress as she pleases without fear of the behavior provoking an assault by anyone.

Two years ago, the idea was again raised to even make the Paschal sacrifice but even the Supreme Court, sitting as the High Court for Justice, thought that was not to be allowed as they decided as far back as 2007.  Democracy, as we know, is fairly limited in this country.

Now, if you are thinking that it isn''t proper to use sheep, for sure not for a sacrifice (and I''ll ignore last week''s sheep being grilled in honor of Independence Day here), for a protest, well what about Spain?  There, Spanish shepherds lead flocks of sheep through the streets of downtown Madrid in defense of ancient grazing, migration and droving rights that are threatened by urban sprawl and man-made frontiers. Jesus Garzón, president of a shepherds council, said last year that about 5,000 sheep and 60 head of cattle crossed the city to exercise the right to droving routes that existed before Madrid grew from a rural hamlet to the great capital it is today.  Really:

In Canada, they are actually intending to sacrifice sheep.  In France, to protest the reintroduction of wolves, sheep were run through the streets of the southern French city of Brignoles during a demonstration on March 26, 2012.  I seem to recall here in Israel a protest against the disengagement when sheep were used.

So, in Israel, sheep are banned from strutting through the city but the underdressed women (and that is their right to do so, wolf whistles to be disregarded) have that right.

Or maybe it''s that the sheep aren''t properly dressed?

Should they have been shorn?

I can only think: will a judge know the difference between a slut and a sheep?
