14 Serbs convicted for killing Frenchman

BELGRADE, Serbia — A Belgrade court convicted 14 Serbs of fatally beating a French football fan and sentenced them to between 4 and 35 years in prison.
The Higher Court convicted the group Tuesday, saying most of them brutally attacked 28-year-old Brice Taton in a downtown cafe in the Serbian capital before Partizan Belgrade's Europa Cup match against Toulouse on Sept. 17, 2009.
Taton died several days later in a hospital.
Two of the 14 attackers remain at large and were tried in absentia.
Serbia has seen a surge in fan violence.
