15 years for sex offender who fled to Argentina

A judge in the Tel Aviv District Court finally sentenced a sex offender to 15 years in prison on Wednesday - almost five years after convicting him.
The defendant, who is in his forties and who cannot be named, managed to flee to Argentina after his conviction in 2008, and was caught and extradited to Israel in November.
In 2008, the Tel Aviv District Court had convicted the man of multiple counts of indecent acts against against his two daughters, his mother-in-law, his daughter-in-law and another woman.
Although the defendant was initially remanded in custody, during the trial the court agreed to his lawyer's request to release him to house arrest. While waiting to be sentenced, the defendant asked to be permitted to leave the house to meet with his lawyer, but instead used the opportunity to flee to Europe using his brother's passport. From Europe, he flew to Argentina.
