150,000 head out to nature on first day of new year

Some 150,000 people took advantage of the first day of the new Jewish year to visit Israel's parks, forests and nature reserves on Monday, according to the Jewish National Fund and the Nature and Parks Authority.

Nearly half of the day trippers made their way to the North, with heavy traffic recorded at the Snir River national park, the Banias waterfall and Acziv Beach in the Galilee, among others.

Tens of thousands of Israelis also visited the countries forests, such as the Ben Shemen Forest and Jerusalem Park in central Israel, as well Be'eri Forest and Lahav Forest in the South.

While temperatures remained higher than normal on Monday, the Israel Meteorological Service forecasted a slight drop in temperatures Tuesday. The relief in heat stress was expected to continue on Wednesday and Thursday.
