There are two days left for consumers to register for the Public Utility Authority’s summer electricity savings program, in which customers can receive significant reductions on their electricity bills for committing to decreased consumption. Consumers who decrease their electricity consumption by 10 percent to 20% in comparison to last year will earn a 10% reduction of their electricity tariffs for the designated period, and customers who decrease their electricity consumption by 20% to 50% in comparison to last year will receive a 20% reduction of their electricity tariffs for the period, according to the PUA. As the savings period only includes July 1 through August 31, the last chance to sign up is July 31.
About 30,000 consumers have signed up for the program so far this summer, the PUA reported. Because the Israel Electric Corporation performed statistical instead of in-person meter readings for about 13% of the population last summer, this segment was excluded from participation, the authority added. Last year, approximately 181,000 households took part in the program, and each family also received discounts of between 10% and 20% on their electricity bills – but with lower consumption reduction thresholds.
