2 deaf men suspected of using sign language to steal goods

Police in the South arrested two deaf men in their 20s on Tuesday on suspicion of exploiting their hearing impairment to steal equipment worth thousands of shekels.
"While one suspect distracted victims and attempted to communicate with them using sign language, the second would steal equipment," police said in a statement.
The suspects, residents of the Beduin community of al-Sayad, first became the target of a police investigation after a man who works in the building maintenance industry reported expensive equipment missing.
Officers at the Rahat police station used CCTV footage to track the suspects down, and say the two can be seen lifting the equipment from the man's parked vehicle. Several additional items suspected to be stolen from other locations were recovered from the suspects' property, police said.
After being arrested, the suspects were questioned with the help of a sign language interpreter.
"They had no choice but to confess after being presented with all the evidence against them," police said.
