70-year-old severely wounded in Beersheba stabbing

A 70-year-old man was severely wounded after being stabbed in a yeshiva in Beersheba shortly after midnight on Friday morning, police and paramedics reported. A suspect who was seized by a crowd, was arrested by police and taken for questioning in connection with the attack.
The injured man was taken to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba "with a very serious injury," police and paramedics added. The identity of the stabbing victim has not yet been released, but he was believed to be a well-known religious leader. Southern police district head Cmdr. Yossi Preinti arrived at the yeshiva and was being updated on details of the incident by police officers from the Negev police sub-district.
