Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein on Tuesday filed a notice of opposition with the High Court of Justice asking it to reject to a petition by a group of African migrants’ human rights groups and uphold the state’s new policy on the migrants issue. The groups filed the petition saying the policy’s provisions regarding open and closed detention and other aspects are unconstitutional violations of the migrants rights.
Weinstein responded that the policy is legal and asked the court to hold a fast-track hearing to decide the issue as if it had already issued an interim order, in order to end a legal battle that has gone on for some time, including the court’s striking of the state’s old policy in mid-September.A-G asks High Court to uphold migrant policy
