Abbas: UN to vote on statehood bid in coming weeks

PA President Mahmoud Abbas predicted on Tuesday that the General Assembly of the United Nations will vote on the Palestinian statehood bid in the coming weeks, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Speaking to a group of students at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, WAFA quoted Abbas as saying: "We went recently to the United Nations to call on the world to recognize our state...We will achieve this, God willing, at the earliest opportunity, which may not exceed a month, or a month and a half."
Abbas stressed that the Palestinian diplomatic effort will be key to achieving full membership. The PA president also referenced Jerusalem as a key reason for returning to the UN.
